twitter.com/atrupar/status…

Also, I really came to the realization after March 11, 2011 that to some people, numbers/data do not mean anything at all. They can't see them as neutral things.

I try to keep grounded by talking to my older relatives for a perspective that is not based on following Twitter and other social media. It is quite different. You can't just assume everyone shares the same POVs as people on social media.

The "80% reduction" hasn't been achieved either though. It's about 40-60% at this point. I am not sure what if anything is going to change by extending the state of emergency nationally.

That report has, in its basic form, been around for weeks, and the epidemiologists behind those accounts mentioned above are the ones who produced it. Also, the "worst case scenario" is just that. It's not the current scenario at all.

So the 'worst case scenario' report gaining a lot of media attention now may be one more attempt at scaring people who aren't paying attention - there are a lot of them still.

(What this *may* do politically is to oust some of the old guard and the younger members of the LDP to the foreground. But we'll see. And this is just my speculation of course and politics interest me even less than figuring out exponential growth!)

(If you think all of this is making Abe look like an indecisive, flip floppy PM...a lot of people in Japan agree with you! However, the opposition parties aren't looking that good either. )
